Live Tweets: Florida at LSU (2/1/23)

Here we go! The premier sporting event of the evening... @GatorsGym v. @LSUgym.

The Gators need a solid road score and a win will solidify at least a share of the SEC Regular Season title.

Blakely UB: Great handstand, Maloney with a little leg sep, good handstand, nice blind change, double front with the large step forward. 9.750.

Nguyen UB: maloney leg sep, hit her feet on the pak, struggles with the pirouette, low and hop on the landing.

DiCello UB: Great Ray. Good pak, great VL. High and almost stuck on the dismount. Tiny hop back with chest up. 9.900.

Thomas UB: great maloney to pak. beautiful VL. Double lay stuck with chest up. HUGE. 9.975.

Wong UB: beautiful handstand, great pak, good VL. Beautiful stuck dismount. 9.950.

Richards UB: Caught the bail strong. Leg separation and flexed feet on the dismount but it was stuck. 9.850.

Richards does have some form issues that she needs to clean up to get the big scores, but it's unbelievable how she has stepped up for the team this year. A solid competitor again on all four events.

Clark VT: Pretty full with a hop back. Smaller hop than last week. Clark matches her career-high with a 9.850 this week. Smaller hop but a great vault in the air.

Wong VT: Pod with a large hop. 9.800.

Richards UB: Good 1.5 with a hop forward. 9.875.

DiCello VT: 1.5 with a hop forward. 9.875.

Thomas VT: 1.5 with a hop. The replay shows that it wasn't huge but was not a little slide. Should be 0.1 hop. 9.925.

Edwards VT: Good full, almost sticks it but has to take the step. Needed to be a tiny bit more patient on the landing but that was so close to the stick for her. 9.825.

49.350 is not too shabby on vault, but Florida got none of the stuck landings and now has put themselves in a position where they need to keep climbing from behind.

Nguyen FX: Pretty front double twist into the sissone. A huge smile after she lands. Nice control. Gorgeous leaps. Pretty y-turn. Lovely 1.5 to lay with a step forward. 9.925.

Baumann FX: Good double wolf. 1.5 to front full, really clean and right into the dance. Gorgeous straddle leaps - Kathy is gushing, she loves a Baumann. Good double pike with a slide back. Nice. 9.925.

Richards FX: Very nice double lay, it looks stronger this year. I would like to see a little more extension in her leaps. Missed her punch for the combo pass and does a tucked full into a straddle jump?

Sloane Blakely has been ill this week so that's why we haven't seen her in as many lineups.

Judging conference over Payton's score. Likely the start value. 9.675.

Wong FX: Double arabian, steps back so a little under rotated but dances out. Pretty leaps. Really short on her combo pass but she holds on and dances out of it. Oof, that was a nail biter. 9.825.

Thomas FX: Excellent control on the double lay really slows the step so you can see that she has control. Nice leaps. A little hop under her on the front lay, uncharacteristic. 9.95.

And Aleah's third 10 in two weeks. She's almost to the Gym Slam already!

DiCello FX: Front double full with the step across. I just want to see her do a different pass... Really nice leaps. Double wolf. Beautiful 1.5 to front lay. 9.95 career-high for Kayla.

Still behind by 0.175 going into the final rotation. It feels hard to make that up with LSU on floor and Florida on beam. But, Florida is one of the best beam teams in the country.

Richards BB: Interesting that she is leading off. Clean turn. Beautiful series, really solid. Misses the connection between the switch half (short) and the beat jump. Switch leap to straddle jump. College stick on the bhs to 1.5. 9.750.

I would guess they just slid Richards into Blakely's spot while she is resting for illness this week, but it was an interesting strategic decision not to move the athletes around.

Lazzari BB: Perfect triple series, stunning. Beautiful leap extension. COME ON, ELLIE. Nice front aerial. Clean full turn. Bhs 1.5 with a hop forward. Great routine, but giving it away on the sticks. 9.90.

Nguyen BB: Love her mount. Lovely onodi to bhs series. Big balance check after the y-turn. Switch leap split jump, nice. And she gets the landing. 9.850. Well... I guess that cancels out the judge that didn't see Haleigh's balance check too.

There desperately needs to be more score separation on floor. Like omg, everything is not a 9.925.

DiCello BB: Hits the wolf turn, I held my breath lol. Pretty leaps. Perfect series. Beautiful front aerial. BHS to stuck gainer full. That SEC Freshman of the Week right there!! Second straight week with the 9.975 on beam!

Thomas BB: Beautiful mount this week. Nice full turn. Perfect series. Gorgeous on her mixed series. And she sticks it this week, SOLID. That is much more a 10.0 than last week. And it's another 10.0 for Trinity Thomas. That was gorgeous.

Wong BB: Beautiful leaps. Strong and solid series. Good full turn. Pretty front aerial to beat jump, she's patient with it. And sticks the landing but she is super low on it.

A 9.900 for Leanne Wong finishes Florida with a 197.975 which will not be enough to catch LSU regardless of Haleigh Bryant's score. Certainly not Florida's most complete performance and they will be upset with the loss, but a 197.975 road score will be quite useful for their NQS.

LSU looked better tonight, and that was reflected in their win! In the end it came out very close. I would have liked to have seen more score separation, especially on floor.

Gator Event Winners: Bars: Trinity Thomas (9.975) Beam: Thomas (10.0) - shared with LSU's Aleah Finnegan Floor: Kayla DiCello and Thomas (9.95) - shared with LSU's KJ Johnson AA: Thomas (39.850)
